Marta Duda, Tomasz Kuc

PREREQUISITES: We require you to operate freely in Adobe InDesign (knowing at least paragraph and character styles, and master page). Remember to bring your laptop.

PrzeKroje – modern typedesign

Michał Jarociński

The workshops are a swift introduction for beginners into the world of typeface design. Every participant will receive two letters ('n' and 'o') taken from an existing typeface as a starting point for designing the rest of the characters. However, the initial letters will be slightly blurred so as not to suggest any direct solutions, but only stimulate creative work. The main assumption of the workshop is to learn about the relationship between characters and quick assimilation of modern typedesign rules.
The ability to create typefaces is extremely important in every field of design. Harmony, sense of space and meticulousness are indispensable features of fine designer. It doesn't matter if you are a desktop publisher of cookbooks or a designer of an electric car body – these workshops are for you.

Ok, what now?

Maciej Połczyński

You’re sketching letters for logotypes? Doing calligraphy? You want to digitalise letters from old prints? Playing around with shapes and can’t get your head around what’s next? Glyphs is one of the most popular and accessible type design software. How to work with it? Can you paste curves from a different vector software? How to export a typeface and use it in your own projects? How to prepare sketches to work with?
This workshop is an introduction to basic functions and ways of working in Glyphs, and using additional, free plugins. Can you learn how to design letters in two days? I’m not sure about that. Can you understand the logic and technical aspects? Maybe. If you want to find out how to transfer your ideas into curves and export them as a fully functional font, this workshop might be for you.

PREREQUISITES:
Sketches, ideas, vectors – anything we can start to work with.
Laptop – Glyphs works only on computers with macOs. Please make sure the trial version of Glyphs is installed in your MacBook before the workshop.

Designing a sans in two days

Martin Majoor

How do you start a typeface without a computer? By using just paper, the right tools and some professional tips and hints it is much faster and more easy than you would expect. Besides the practical aspects of using a calligraphic tool like the double pencil, it will be a lesson in history, showing quite directly where our typefaces come from.
